About
Dustin
My name is Dustin Williams, and yes that is really my name. I was born and raised a fifth generation Seventh-day Adventist. I graduated cum laude from Walla Walla University (formerly Walla Walla College) in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and minors in History and Biblical Languages. After that, I spent a year in the Master of Divinity program at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University.
That summer I spent six weeks on the Tal Jalul archeology project in the Madaba plains of Jordan and finished up the season as one of the square supervisors in Field D. The summer was wrapped up with preaching an evangelistic series in a village outside of Cancun, but after the first four sermons, I reached the point where my integrity forced me to admit that I had lost my faith, so I quit the series and dropped out of the seminary.
To put it succinctly, I decided it was time to stop being a deluded hypocritical piece of shit peddler of lies and myths. It’s not that I think that every preacher is like that, but when I was preaching a message I didn’t believe it was definitely true for me.
I still like to share the good news, of course now it’s sharing the good news of atheism. I guess the old cliche, “once a preacher, always a preacher,” holds true for me. If you want to read more of my story, you can find a five part series called “Why I’m an Atheist” (part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5) or you can listen to the interview where I share my story on Chariots of Iron. Since atheist technically only tells you one thing I don’t believe, you may wonder what I actually do believe. Don’t worry, you can find that here.
I am also involved in the atheist community here in the Boise area, and I am serving as the Co-Organizer both the West Valley Freethinkers and the Cosmos Coffee Club.
When I’m not busy with my job in management, atheist groups, or blogging, I enjoy riding my Yamaha Banshee, snowboarding, white water rafting, and smoking fine cigars. I am also a huge fan of free and open source software, with every computer in my house running Linux in one form or another, whether it’s my desktop, file server, HTPC, and netbook running Arch Linux, my Droid 2 running Android 2.3 (Liberty Rom), or my Linksys router running DD-WRT.
You can email me at [email protected] or use the contact form, I’m here to help.
Wesley
Wesley was the first person to have a fan photo taken with Dustin, then a few months later started getting really annoying by flooding Dustin’s inbox with links to wacky news articles, so Dustin invited him to write a guest post. Now Wesley contributes witty news articles on the blog twice a week.
