You just have to love hoaxes…

Someone suggested today that I should do rants on Fridays, so here I go. This email I recently recently seems like some good fodder.

Shock to NBC this morning.

This is not sent for discussion.  If you agree, forward it…  If you don’t, delete it.
I don’t want to know one way or the other.  By me forwarding it, you know how I feel.

I’ll bet this was a surprise to NBC….

NBC POLL

Do you believe that the word God should stay in American culture?

NBC this morning had a poll on this question. They had the highest Number of responses that they have ever had for one of their polls, and the Percentage was the same as this:

86% to keep the words, IN God We Trust and God in the Pledge of Allegiance
14% against

That is a pretty ‘commanding’ public response.

I was asked to send this on if I agreed or delete if I didn’t ..

Now it is your turn.  It is said that 86% of Americans believe the word God should stay…….

Therefore, I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a mess about having ‘In God We Trust’ on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Why is the world catering to this 14%?

AMEN!

If you agree, pass this on , if not, simply delete.

In God We Trust

This is the day the LORD has made.  I will rejoice and be glad in it.

in God We Trust  –  GOD Bless America

First off, if you say something to me whether it be in verbal or written form, then it is open for discussion.

Secondly, the the email as a whole is a HOAX. However, some of the details are right. If you want to make a point, at least do your credibility the favor of fact checking. There’s stuff I’ve seen that would be fun to share on the blog, but after some fact checking I couldn’t verify the claim, so I didn’t spread it.

Now, with all this talk about God in the email, I feel the need to ask who? Is it the Christian God(s), the Jewish God, the Muslim God, the Hindu gods, or the deistic God? I’ve met believers right here in the USA who are believers in each. By identifying which one it excludes everybody else, and by not identifying who you’re talking about it removes all meaning from the statement, of course it still does exclude those goddamn atheists and agnostics.

More importantly, why the $(*% should it matter what 86% of the country thinks? This is nothing short of tyranny of the majority. I don’t believe in God, so I must not be a part of this “one nation under God.” I don’t trust in God, so I can’t subscribe to the motto of our great nation.

I am so damn lucky that when I was subpenaed a few years ago that I wasn’t sworn in with “so help me God,” or I would have been forced to refuse the oath, risking contempt of court, or purger myself right from the start.

The Constitution prohibits the establishment of religion or application of a religious test for public office. Furthermore, the Constitution makes no mention of a god, gods, higher power, or any specific religion. Hell, when the founding fathers had a chance to make an official declaration about the founding of the nation they said that it was NOT a Christian nation.

Does my lack of religious belief make me any less of an American than I was a few years ago? What about the thousands of atheists serving in the military, are they less American because they don’t believe?

I will not silently sit here and take this tyranny. I just pulled out my wallet and took a Sharpe to the words “In God we Trust.” You know what, with out God my money will still be worth just as much. This is the first time I’ve done this, but this email has inspired me and I just might continue. Let’s all raise our Sharpies in protest!

  1. Love the posting however I do have to disagree with one thing. Even so called Atheists believe in something and that makes it there god, even if they don’t call it a god.

What you turn to when in need and despair is what you make your god. Based on your response with money I would have to say your god is money, its what you believe is the only thing that matters, its what you trust in and what you make a priority.
